Engaging All Learners Through Cold Calling

Module Description

Engagement is the level of interest, attention, curiosity and participation shown by learners towards the academic content being taught by the teacher throughout the lesson. Learner engagement is a prerequisite of learning, and for learning to be truly meaningful, learners have to be cognitively engaged. This module is part of the Engaging All Learners series and aims to introduce teachers to engaging their learners through a strategy called, Cold calling meaning when teachers ask scaffolded questions to as many learners as possible in a systematic way.

Module Objectives

  • Teachers will be able to engage their learners by asking scaffolded questions to as many learners as possible in a systematic way.
  • Teachers will be able to increase learner participation by using Cold Calling as a learner engagement strategy.
  • Teachers will be able to keep their learners at ease and comfortable with Cold Calling as a strategy by keeping it predictable, positive and making it systematic.
